The electronic age has caught up to the fishing license business. It used to be you had to wait until the fishing license agent opened for business to purchase your license, which may have cost you lost fishing time. Now, for many states, you can purchase a license over the internet.
Different states have their own ways to purchase a license. Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has a website named "The Outdoor Shop," which allows people to purchase a new fishing license, upgrade their privileges, or replace a lost license. In Pennsylvania, anyone over the age of 16 needs a fishing license, and this must be signed in ink and displayed by being attached to a hat or outer garment. Georgia, for example, has three ways to obtain a license - by calling a toll free number, by visiting one of their 400 agents, or by purchasing it through their website. Florida has three types of fishing licenses - freshwater fishing license, saltwater fishing license, and one license that combines both saltwater and freshwater fishing. Florida also has different rates for residents and non-residents. The State of California also has the ability to purchase a fishing license online - they also have different licenses for sport fishing and for commercial fishing. Wyoming has ten types of fishing licenses ranging from a daily license to an annual license and from youth to adult rates. They also have licenses for fishing preserves and for commercial fish hatcheries.
Every state has their own rules and regulations along with different fee rates. They seem to all have licensed agents located throughout their state, but many states are now letting people purchase their licenses online which makes for some happier fishermen.
